Measure a Shirt

Place your shirt on a flat surface, like a table or on the ground, and take the measurements. The measurements you take should be in inches. Make sure that the shirt is buttoned up before you start measuring.

Primary Measurement

Place the shirt on its back. Make sure the shirt is straight and not crumpled at all. Leave a gap of 1 inch from the armhole. Measure from one end to the other. Double the measurement.
Chest
Place the shirt on its back. It is roughly 7.5 inch below the armhole. Once you have located it, measure from end to end. Double the measurement.
waist
Take the shirt and lay it on its front. Take both the ends where the shoulder attaches itself to the sleeve. Measure the distance of the two points.
Shoulder
Place the shirt on its back. Measure from where the collar attaches itself to the shirt to the end of the seam. The shirt length preference differs from person to person, choose your ideal length.
Shirt length
Place the shirt on its back. Move to the hip area of the shirt. The measurement is from one side to another. Double the measurement.
Bottom

Secondary Measurement

Collar
Open the shirt and place it flat on its front. Spread the collar and measure from where the collar attaches itself to the collar band. Measure the distance and ensure that after buttoning it up, there is room for at least one finger to fit in.
Sleeve Length
Place the shirt on its back and flatten out the shirt sleeve. Measure from where the shoulder and the sleeve meet to the end of the cuff. End your measurement right where the cuff does.
Cuffs
Open and straighten the cuff out to make sure the measurements are appropriate and don’t go off your chart. The measurement is taken from where the cuff meets the sleeve. Take the measurement from one end of it to the other.
Bicep
Place the shirt flat on its back. Stretch out the sleeve and determine the widest part of the sleeve. It is roughly 15 centimeters from the shoulder. Once placed, measure from end to end. Double the measurement.
